Tatumwa Desmond Benjamin is a Communications Officer and Nurse with extensive experience in healthcare and public relations. He excels in developing and implementing effective communication strategies, managing social media presence, and coordinating public relations activities. Desmond collaborates closely with health professionals to conduct impactful health education sessions, showcasing his commitment to community health.
He has held several high-level positions, including Head of Communications at Busoga Health Forum and Hope & Healing Center, President of +256 Youth Platform, and Projects Chair of the Rotaract Club of Iganga. Desmond’s leadership skills and commitment have significantly contributed to various healthcare initiatives and research projects aimed at improving public health.
As a nurse, he played a key role in conducting intervention studies on unintended pregnancies among teenagers in Busoga, supported by JICA, and evaluating essential services provided by Jinja City Local Government through a Citizen Report Card Survey supported by the Swedish International Center for Local Democracy. Additionally, Desmond has designed data collection tools for the Urban Thrive project by Makerere University School of Public Health and the Busoga Health Forum.
An alumnus of YALI RLC East Africa cohort 42, Desmond developed a passion for using his skills in graphic design and web development to visualize and communicate community health indicators. Outside of work, he enjoys creating new friendships and exploring new places, valuing connection and community, and continually seeking ways to bring people together for a common cause.
